Head of Claims - Legal services

Mission and objectives of the function:

  • Support and translating the company's strategy into a vision and concrete action plans for the Claims department, including creative digital solutions.
  • Responsible for the proper functioning of the claims department, in order to guarantee the best possible service to insured persons and intermediaries.
  • Supervising the necessary budgets of the department under the supervision of the Executive Committee.
  • Hierarchical direct management to a team between 3 to 6 individuals and a functional guidance to underlying organizational layers, including more than 135 indirect reports.
  • He/she will report hierarchically and functionally to the CEO of DAS N.V.
  • High strategic impact, as he/she provides decisive advice for management decisions. Function is a member of the Senior Management Team and a permanent guest on the Executive Committee.
  • Tasks:

      Organization of the Claims service
    • Final responsibility for the Claims service and the Legal department.
    • Study possible disruptions & new business models in the legal services market & map out the impact on the department.
    • Defining, optimizing and monitoring the necessary working procedures to organize a good process flow, with special attention for automation and the application of new technologies.
    • Analyse and provide sufficient resources per unit.
    • Establishing the necessary management parameters for monitoring the effectiveness and efficiency of the department: lead time of files, cost and revenue per file, % of internal and external solution, quality measurement,....
    • Budget planning and follow up, as approved by the executive committee.
    • Guarding the finality and added value of this department in the total organizational model, also with respect to the outside world.
    • People management
    • Sharing best practices, consolidating trust and collaboration through the teams.
    • Transparent, effective and genuine communication.
    • Coaching, people development, performance and satisfaction review of the direct team.
    • Partner of HR for high-level topics related to the department.
    • External partners
    • Establish good commercial relations and working arrangements with an external network of lawyers and experts.
    • Managing the list of preferred partners, monitoring budgets in terms of effectiveness, costs and quality.
    • Business relations with leading brokers.
    • Profil

      Your profile

      • Master degree in Law, Economics, or other university degree combined with a career in a Service type of environment.
      • Minimum 10 years of experience, including people management.
      • Knowledge and understanding of legal proceedings.
      • You have a capacity of strategic vision and are able to integrate digital further developments into it.
      • Project, Change and Process management experiences are undeniably a plus.
      • Able to cope with business and financial insights: developing business cases, drawing up & monitoring budgets, etc.
      • In dealing with people you show persuasiveness, strong leadership, and competencies in coaching and directing teams in respect of them.
      • Effective Multilingualism: nearly perfect Dutch and French. Good English.
      • Finally, you are proud and accountable for your acts and decisions and feel attracted by a strategical challenging environment !
